Z axis ringing / wobble? Or software issue?

Post by cattivik66 » Fri Apr 06, 2018 10:18 am

Hi all!
I have an Photon without the bearing on top (so I suppose that it is the new version, right?). All great but.. I have a quality issue that is really annoing me.

I have noticed some kind of Z ringing (or is that wobble? I am not sure), mostly when I print a plain surface that is rotated 90° to the building platform.
I attach a picture, but having the miniature in hand is even worse.

Any of you have the same trouble?

Some info:
1. the Z axis does not make any strange noise
2. it has lubrificant, but I'll try to add some more later

I thinked that perhaps the problem is on the software, and not on the hardware.
My workflow usually is:
1. load the stl on meshmixer
2. hole the object if needed, rotate it and add supports, 0.025 resolution
3. export in STL and load on the printer software (tried both the original software 1.3.5 and ChiTu DLP 64 1.3.6)
4. from here just export, still 0.025 resolution
5. print

I attach another picture that shows the problem better

undo the screws to the front, back and sides of the Z lead screw and tighten them just until they catch a bit this might sort this issue out remember just the ones at the front back and sides directly next to the lead.

I have opened everything and then re-mounted

The only thing i didn't touched is the z Motor that has the z bar inside it, I was afraid to open it.
Now I am making a test print, I hope it is enought.

So, I have finished the print test and the issue is still there, nothing changed at all.

Flint, can you post a picture of the screws that you are talking about? Just to be 100% sure that I am not missing something.

If there is any play between the lead screw and linear guide, any abnormal rotation of the lead screw will cause banding. If the lead screw is not parallel to the linear guide, you will see some amount of banding proportional to the different in angle between the screw and guide.

On Thingiverse, there is a tall cylinder that can be used as a test for wobble. It'd recommend printing that to see how exaggerated the wobble is on your prints. I'd then go to AnyCubic to get resolution since you may have to replace one or more parts to get it back in-line.

I am having the same issue and I am running out of ideas. I followed Anycubic´s video to fix the Z axis shake and it solved part of the problem. Now the problem is not as pronounced as before, but the waves are still there.
